1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how the Elan Energy mobile application (“we”, “us”, “our”, or “the App”) handles information when you use our services. By installing and using Elan Energy, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
The App is published by Elan Energy and provides real-time information about India’s electricity grid carbon intensity to help users make informed energy decisions.
Disclaimer: Elan Energy is an independent, unofficial app. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or operated by Grid-India, POSOCO, the Ministry of Power, or any government agency. It simply displays publicly available grid statistics for general informational purposes.
2. Information We Do NOT Collect
Elan Energy is designed with privacy as a priority. We do NOT collect, store, or transmit any of the following:
– Personal identifiers (name, email, phone number, address)
– Account credentials (the app does not require sign-up or login)
– Location data (GPS, Wi-Fi, cellular, or IP-based)
– Device identifiers (IMEI, IMSI, MAC address, advertising ID)
– Photos, contacts, or call history
– Usage analytics or behavioral tracking
– Crash reports containing personal information
– Cookies or local tracking identifiers
The App does not include any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
3. Information the App Uses
To provide its core functionality, Elan Energy makes anonymous HTTPS requests to the following public data source:

Official Grid-India source: https://grid-india.in/en — the Government of India enterprise (under the Ministry of Power) that operates India’s national electricity grid.
Data retrieved: Aggregated, non-personal electricity grid statistics for India, including total generation in megawatts, fuel-wise generation breakdown (coal, gas, nuclear, hydro, wind, solar), demand met, and computed carbon intensity (gCO₂/kWh).
This data is general national-grid data and contains no information about individual users. It is publicly available and identical for every user of the App.
4. How the App Uses This Information
The retrieved grid data is used solely to:
1. Display the current carbon intensity of India’s electricity grid
2. Render charts showing the last 24 hours of carbon intensity and generation mix
3. Provide simple recommendations such as “consider deferring heavy loads” based on the current intensity value
Data fetched from the public source is held only in the app’s volatile memory (RAM) while the App is open. It is not written to your device’s storage, transmitted to any other service, or retained after the App is closed.
5. Permissions Used
Elan Energy requests the following Android permissions, used exclusively for the purposes described:

The App does not request access to your location, camera, microphone, contacts, storage, calendar, SMS, phone state, biometrics, or any other sensitive permission.
6. Children’s Privacy
Elan Energy is suitable for users of all ages. We do not knowingly collect any information from children or any other users, because we do not collect personal information from anyone.
7. Third-Party Services
The App communicates with a single third-party endpoint (carbontracker.in), which relays public grid statistics originally sourced from Grid-India (POSOCO) — official source: https://grid-india.in/en. carbontracker.in is operated independently of Grid-India and of Elan Energy. Their handling of any incidental request metadata (such as your IP address at the time of the request) is governed by their own policies; we do not control or have access to their systems.
The App contains no advertising networks, no analytics services, no crash reporting tools, no social-media SDKs, and no third-party login providers.
8. Data Security
Because we collect no personal information, there is no user data on our servers that could be exposed in a breach. All network communication from the App uses HTTPS (TLS) to keep your requests private in transit.
9. Your Rights
Since the App does not store any personal information about you:
– There is no account to delete (we don’t have accounts)
– There is no data to export (we don’t store anything about you)
– There is no profile to correct (we don’t have profiles)
If you wish to stop using the App, simply uninstall it from your device. No data is retained anywhere.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example to reflect a change in the public data source we use, or a change in app features. Material changes will be communicated via an update to the App and a revised “Last Updated” date at the top of this document. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
